Two Heads Better

Album #6 from Go Ahead Punk: ‘Two Heads Better’ Is Pouring It On Twice as Nice
I can’t believe it’s my sixth album (technically seventh if you count my 4-song Christmas EP), and I am nearing 100 songs just for this project.
This is the culmination of a surge of writing toward the end of 2025. It’s an entirely new level of writing and may very well be that this work splits off into its own band.
It was largely because I decided to resume what I had stopped doing many years, even decades ago, which was not only listening to artists who inspired me in their songwriting, producing and performing, but going to live shows of the most influential. What happened was that back in 2023, a major amphitheater opened not 2 blocks from a two-thousand-seat concert hall, both walking distance from my apartment and a stone’s throw from my studio.
Among the artists I saw in late 2025 were the Wallflowers, Mayday Parade and All Time Low, along with (earlier that summer) Our Lady Peace, Live and Collective Soul. I also saw another favorite of mine, “Gaslight Anthem” who opened a Counting Crows show I saw, a band I hadn’t seen in 30 years since first seeing them at the Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie NY, (where the likes of David Bowie and the Police cut their teeth on the NY club scene) and when “Mr Jones” had only just started getting radio play.
And since 2022, I saw (twice) my long-time and all-time, foremost songwriting influence, Del Amitri, having never seen them since discovering them 30 years earlier (once on a solo show and once opening for none other than Barenaked Ladies! who are very inspiring as the most brilliant songwriters they are)
The 2025 creative outpour all started with “Love at First Fight” on the heels of having seen Wallflowers and All Time Low only weeks prior, feeling extra inspired, and it flowed from there with “Alyssa With an ‘E’” and the most influential, pop-culture-reference-laced, “We Were On a Break!” The roll continued with “Best of Luck But I Wish It Was Me“, culminating at Christmas with “Your HB” and kicking off New Year’s Day with “You’re #1, But We Were Always #2“, even including a “lost song” from 2012 I had forgotten, “Deserve You“, and it continues from there.
And so, with great pride, I present the album “Two Heads Better“, a work in progress with more songs in production.

Your HB
You pulled up,
you parked,
you were driving a pick up,
but when you got out
I could not get enough
Suspected you were
married with children,
but never expected
in a million years
I’d be lucky enough to hear
you were ready
and waiting for me,
and I became
your one and only HB
Oh, honey bunny
as you started calling me
And maybe, honey,
I’ll turn out to always be
your honey bunny
For short,
you call me your HB,
but you’re never
short on love
for me
Got my nerve up
to spark
casual conversation,
but had no doubts
about my motivation
Detected I‘d be
a future you could build on,
but never expected
in a billion years
I’d be lucky enough to hear
you were steadily
hoping for me
to become
your one and only HB
Oh, honey bunny
as you started calling me
And maybe, honey,
I’ll turn out to always be
your honey bunny
For short,
you call me your HB,
but you’re never
short on love
for me
Happy to be
your honey bunny
You’ve no idea
the favor
you’ve done me
Call me HB
Shows that
you love me,
and I’m never
short on love…
Nothing short of HB
I’d always hoped to be
and never ever
run short
of your love
for me,
my honey bunny
Oh, honey bunny
as you started calling me
And maybe, honey,
I’ll turn out to always be
your honey bunny
For short,
you call me your HB,
but you’re never
short on love
for me
love for me
I’m your HB
love for me
I’m your HB

Rhyme Heals All Wounds
You left LA wildfires
Oregon tags since expired
Headed southeast, out of season,
all without rhyme and no reason
Let’s go!
Increasing space, give it more time
Patiently wait, doesn’t go right
Radio streams while your heart sings,
making whole these injured heart strings
Makes disbelief of healing time,
because you know
Time may break you,
but rhyme heals all wounds,
if you’ll listen up
and let it just play out
Remember, trials may plague you,
but rhyme heals all wounds
It sounds good to you
when rhyme heals all your wounds
Wash your hair out, rinse and repeat
From your takedown, cut so deeply
Change your style, cut and color
For a short while, duck and cover
Let go!
Stitches in time
sew up your demise,
but it’s true
that reason and rhyme,
in the end,
will always work for you
Stop your waiting
Don’t stick it out
Don’t go straining or live without
This resilience comes in no time,
and the brilliance, almost divine
And, if you can’t bear another day,
just realize
Time may break you,
but rhyme heals all wounds,
if you’ll listen up
and let it just play out
Remember, trials may plague you,
but rhyme heals all wounds
It sounds good to you
when rhyme heals all your wounds
It sounds good to you
when rhyme heals all your wounds

Last Night
It came to me,
in a dream so clear,
after all these years
I’ve spent denying hard
Thought it couldn’t be,
but it was plain to see
Rediscovered, quietly,
your tender heart
from just before
I left us torn apart
Another chance,
a surprise circumstance
in a sleeping trance
that I sensed was so real
I felt your advance
It can’t be happenstance
I insist it can’t
possibly be just a dream
that brought me to you
and you to me
Why did we just let it go?
Why’d we both go along
with going about
our separate ways
and saying our so longs?
And why didn’t we
just recognize that,
when we met for one last time,
even though we’d said
our last goodbyes,
the darkness stopped this time
for our last night?
If you thought of me
that I did this easily,
you’d find out, tragically,
I went, but can’t deny
that I had second-guessed,
and looked in retrospect,
at our deep connection broken,
Lord knows why,
but thought it was
too late to be revived
Why did we just let it go?
Why’d we both go along
with going about
our separate ways
and saying our so longs?
And why didn’t we
just recognize that,
when we met for one last time,
even though we’d said
our last goodbyes,
the darkness stopped this time
And there we were last night,
like we were years ago,
when we met one last time
after we’d let it go…
It was so good to see
you there in my sleep,
picking up with me
where we left off last time
In the dead of dark,
last night, it came alive…
Why did we just let it go?
Why’d we both go along
with going about
our separate ways
and saying our so longs?
And why didn’t we
just recognize that,
when we met for one last time,
even though we’d said
our last goodbyes,
the darkness stopped this time,
the darkness stopped this time
for our last night?

You’re #1, But We Were Always #2
Terrific,
is our relationship
A bit shit,
is what you make of it
Here I stand,
with you my number one,
but, oh man,
to you,
we’re one and done
If this was ever
give and take,
you got away
with all the takeaways
You’re off the charts
and out the top,
but when the penny drops
on me, were not
With all the crap
it took to do
to make a go of us
and see shit through,
you never said it,
but probably you meant to,
you’re number one,
but we were always
number two!
You’re number one,
but we were always
number two!
You’re number one,
but we were always
number two with you!
Not to be a dick,
but our relationship,
down it slips,
and in the wake of it,
is my fear
to you we’re overdone
and, my dear,
our two is only one
And, if you ever
looked at us,
it was always
your end game or bust
Like a rocket ship
at fullest blast,
I’m second stage
and left behind at last
With all the crap
it took to do
to make a go of us
and see shit through,
you never said it,
but probably you meant to,
You’re number one,
but we were always
number two!
You’re number one,
but we were always
number two!
Number one,
but we were always
number two with you!
We’re second best
to all the rest,
second fiddle
to a solo act of you
And, while I hold you
my veriest,
there isn’t
much more I can do
from number two!
My iron faith’s
ridden with rust
Our undying love
has turned to dust
Though my love’s
gone number one,
you know that we’ve gone
number two and done!
With all the crap
it took to do
to make a go of us
and see shit through,
you never said it,
but, probably you meant to,
You’re number one,
but we were always…
If there was anything
I could do or say
to make you feel
and maybe change the way
you feel about us
and say you didn’t mean to
be number one
while we were
always number two
You’re number one,
but we were always
number two!
You’re number one,
but we were always
number two with you!

Best of Luck, But I Wish It Was Me
I’ve been told all the best ones
will, for always, be taken
by a much better someone
and I’m always forsaken
and that I should pack it in
no matter how long that it’s been
I may be a future wedding guest
who’ll wish you all the best,
I wish you the best of luck,
but I wish it was me
who was engaged to you
heading for eternity
promising all my days to you
down on one knee
Oh, wouldn’t you know
that it was just my luck
that someone beat me
to give you that ring
swearing to be to you
yours in so many ways
while I wish you the best of luck,
but I wish it was me
I can’t be the only one,
but I may be mistaken
and one day I’ll awaken
and accept you’ve been taken
And maybe my timing’s not right,
and, maybe, I lack the foresight
and all that’s left to do, I guess,
is wish you all the best
I wish you the best of luck,
but I wish it was me
who was engaged to you
heading for eternity
promising all my days to you
down on one knee
Oh, wouldn’t you know
that it was just my luck
that someone beat me
to give you that ring
swearing to be to you
yours in so many ways
while I wish you the best of luck,
but I wish it was me
All this passion that’s gone to waste,
and all I’m left with is distaste
on ever getting sweet on you,
from here comes the bride in my head,
to, down the aisle, give you away
Hey, yeah
Your diamond sparkles in my eyes
the way that I thought you and I
would radiate in formal dress
while everyone wishes us all the best
I wish you the best of luck,
but I wish it was me
who was engaged to you
heading for eternity
promising all my days to you
down on one knee
Oh, wouldn’t you know
that it was just my luck
that someone beat me
to give you that ring
swearing to be to you
yours in so many ways
while I wish you the best of luck,
but I wish you the best of luck,
but I wish it was me
who was engaged to you
heading for eternity
promising all my days to you
down on one knee
Oh, wouldn’t you know
that it was just my luck,
that someone beat me
to give you that ring
swearing to be to you
yours in so many ways
while I wish you the best of luck,
but I wish it was me

We Were on a Break!
If you ever knew
or had a clue
what my intentions were
when I first went out
ahead of you,
met another who
returned my affections
without asking her to
We had said
goodbye somehow,
but just didn’t know
it’s just for now
And though we put it
back together again,
her name came up
I took no blame
Because we were on a break!
Make no mistake,
your accusations
are unfounded
Now back from our break
Got amnesty
from all that happened
during that space
we were on a break
We were on a break!
I tell you something…
We were on a break!
High fidelity
is what you’re telling’ me
should be policy
if a break up breaks out
Instead of me
getting clemency
I’d suffer for my actions
with full penalty
And though we said
goodbye for now,
the rules still apply
to me somehow
And now we’ve put it
back together again,
her relevance,
fades from view
Because we were on a break!
Make no mistake,
your accusations
are unfounded
Now back from our break
Got amnesty
from all that happened
during that space
we were on a break
We were on a break!
I tell you something…
We were on a break!
In the wake of our break
I headed for a neutral zone,
out on my own
And, for my actions
in that brief window,
you won’t leave me alone
(It’s so unfair)
Because we were on a break!
(We were on a break!)
(We were on a break!)
Because we were on a break
Make no mistake,
your accusations
are unfounded
Now back from our break
Got amnesty
from all that happened
during that space
we were on a break
(We were on a break!)
We were on a break!
(We were on a break!)
I tell you something…
We were on a break!

Love At First Fight!
Cordial, I smiled
when I first saw you,
but not altogether right
Because then we defied
attraction laws
too strong to deny
Your opposition calling,
and it’s got me falling
Got us intertwined,
conflicted,
in love at first fight!
Verbal riptides,
these words that
break like waves
don’t necessarily define
Because there’s yet this fire,
burns more like lovers’ flames
in the heat of denial
Conflicting views appalling,
but it’s got me falling
as it all unwinds
to leave us,
in love at first fight!
Told myself love started when
I’d see a face, then start pretending
and defending that it’s so right
But since I first argued with you
I’ve got the best happy endings
and love at first fight
Fake love resides
in rom-com fantasies,
their ticket holders in denial
But maybe love collides
in word cacophony,
and picking fights
will spark desire
Put up our dukes,
we’re brawling,
tension’s got me falling
as as we recognize
we’ve fallen
in love at first fight!
in love at first fight!
in love at first fight!

Alyssa With an E
You wanna be so free
to be who you wanna be,
and you made it clear
you don’t like me
to, confidentially,
even think differently,
and to only see
the life you lead
A one-way street,
one philosophy,
one way to see
as if to believe
And she’ll give me grief
on one more thing
yeah
That’s “Alyssa” with an “E”,
when she corrected it to me
“It’s ‘E-lyssa’, if you please”
she’d say, berating me
Elizabeth Louise
wasn’t who she wants to be
So, Alyssa With an E
drivin’ me crazy
tonight
You refuse to eat meat
with leather on your feet
Spurs dug in your steed,
you look down on me
Your high horse rearing up
above my peasantry,
but no pleasantries,
just your decrees
A two-way street,
a catastrophe
Might as well be
foreign policy
As she’ll give me grief
on one more thing
yeah
That’s “Alyssa” with an “E”,
when she corrected it to me
“It’s ‘E-lyssa’, if you please”
she’d say, berating me
Elizabeth Louise
wasn’t who she wants to be
So, Alyssa With an E
drivin’ me crazy
tonight
Debating with my roommate
Dukes it out like doomsday
Maybe, at one time,
it was entertaining
But then it really got so played
I can’t believe it to this day
A miracle we made it
without that fuckin’ “A”
That’s “Alyssa” with an “E”,
when she corrected it to me
“It’s ‘E-lyssa’, if you please”
she’d say, berating me
Elizabeth Louise
wasn’t who she wants to be
So, Alyssa With an E
drivin’ me crazy
“Alyssa” with an “E”
is how she corrected it to me
“It’s ‘E-lyssa’, if you please”
she’d say, berating me
Elizabeth Louise
wasn’t who she wants to be
So, Alyssa With an E
drivin’ me crazy
tonight

Deserve You
When you look up to me
I feel like I can fly
I get these superpowers,
and no one can explain why
But you should know
that someone out there
does for you what
most would not dare
Swoop in just in time
no matter what it takes to do
I want to tell you something,
don’t mean to disturb you
I would have sooner,
but I lost my will and nerve to
But, like a superhero’s duty
to preserve truth,
I have to save you from
a man who don’t deserve you,
who don’t deserve you
When you look up at me,
you shine like kryptonite
Which might explain
the loss for words,
my speech gets paralyzed
But you should know
that someone near you
knows someone near you
is not true
Swoop in just in time
no matter what it takes to do
I want to tell you something,
don’t mean to disturb you
I would have sooner,
but I lost my will and nerve to
But, like a superhero’s duty
to preserve truth,
I have to save you from
a man who don’t deserve you,
who don’t deserve you
Closely guarded is
my true identity, yeah
Disregarded,
as I face your enemies
And you should know
someone fights for you,
when someone, to you, is untrue
Swoops in just in time
no matter what it takes to do
I want to tell you something,
don’t mean to disturb you
I would have sooner,
but I lost my will and nerve to
But, like a superhero’s duty
to preserve truth,
I have to save you from
a man who don’t deserve you
I want to tell you something,
don’t mean to disturb you
I would have sooner,
but I lost my will and nerve to
But, like a superhero’s duty
to preserve truth,
I have to save you from
a man who don’t deserve you
who don’t deserve you
