The EP That Changed It All for Me
In 1998 my band (The Original) $0.05 Mary went into the studio to record a 4-song EP called “The Jones-Hay Residence”.
The album was titled after singer Bud Hay’s answering machine greeting which all the band members loved and joked about when we called his apartment. He lived with a roommate named Bill Jones. It was such a running joke we decided to make the album start off with his answering machine recording and have it lead directly into the lead-off cut “With You” which was poised to be the album’s hit song.
I wrote the opening two tracks “With You” and “Hollywood” and co-wrote the second two tracks, “A Friend Like Me” and “$0.05 Mary.” I also played drums on the tracks and sang backing vocals. There were also three covers, two in-studio (Remedy by Black Crowes and The Difference by Wallflowers) and one (Since I Been Loving You by Led Zeppelin) from a live show.
